Opening Scene
The movie opens on Halloween night with a group of teenagers getting ready for a costume party. The main character, Jenny, is struggling to come up with a clever costume idea. She wants something different that will stand out. She searches through her mom’s old boxes of stuff from the 1970s and finds an old horror VHS. The title reads “The Night He Came Home.” Intrigued, Jenny watches the movie, which features a group of teens who accidentally awaken an evil entity while partying in a cabin in the woods on Halloween. The evil entity stalks and kills them one by one. Jenny decides this will be the perfect costume inspiration.
Jenny’s 1970s Horror Film Costume
Jenny carefully recreates the main character’s 1970s style look for her costume. She goes all out with feathered hair, retro makeup, bell bottoms, and earth tone colors. Jenny looks completely immersed in 1970s style. She meets up with her friends to head to the Halloween party, excited to show off her throwback horror character costume. Her friends are dressed in more modern costumes, donning superhero and pop culture looks.
The Halloween Party
Jenny and her friends arrive at the crowded Halloween party. Music is blaring and the place is elaborately decorated. As Jenny mingles through the crowd, she gets strange looks and no one recognizes her costume. One partygoer asks who she is supposed to be. Jenny explains she is dressed as the main character from the obscure 1970s horror film “The Night He Came Home.” Her friends look confused, asking what the movie is about. Jenny gives them the plot summary, telling them its about a group of teens who accidentally awaken an evil entity while partying in a cabin on Halloween. The evil entity stalks and kills them. Her friends laugh it off, making jokes about how silly and weird 1970s horror films are.
Teenagers Start Disappearing
As the night goes on, Jenny notices some teenagers at the party are suddenly missing. She asks around if anyone has seen them, but no one has. She starts to get an uneasy feeling. She wonders if it has anything to do with her costume and the plot of the 1970s horror movie. Jenny brushes away the thought, certain it’s impossible the fictional story could be coming to life. She continues to have fun at the party, chatting with her crush, Jake. Meanwhile, more people disappear without explanation.
Terror Rises
The party mood shifts to fear and confusion as more teenagers vanish. Jenny convenes with her core friend group, now worried about what is happening. They search the party and find no one. The music cuts out, lights go out, screams are heard. Something evil has entered the party. Jenny’s mind races back to her costume and the eerie similarities taking place. She tries to convince her friends that something supernatural connected to her costume may be responsible. Suddenly, Jake disappears right in front of Jenny’s eyes.
Escaping the Evil Entity
Complete terror takes over the party. Jenny’s friends think she has lost it. Jenny is now certain the evil entity has emerged from the obscure 1970s horror film her costume is based on. She pleads to her friends that they need to escape. They run for exit doors but they are all locked. The evil force closes in on them. More people disappear. Jenny’s friends finally realize she is right. They search for weapons and anything to defend themselves. Jenny has an idea to rip off elements of her costume to try and reverse the supernatural curse. She starts tearing at her 1970s clothes. Her friends follow suit, destroying decor from the 1970s era too.
Defeating the Evil
As Jenny destroys the last bits of her 1970s costume, an energy shift is felt. The evil entity materializes in front of them, a paranormal specter of doom. Jenny and her friends use their makeshift weapons from the party to fight back. It’s a harrowing battle, but their 1970s costume destruction seems to have weakened the monster. In a climactic last stand, Jenny’s friends help her deliver a final blow to destroy the evil entity. The supernatural force implodes in a burst of light.
Halloween Morning Aftermath
As the sun rises on Halloween morning, police are at the party location trying to make sense of what happened. The missing teenagers start reappearing, unable to recall the events. Jenny sits bloodied and exhausted on the curb. Jake comforts her, but the horror of the night has forever changed her. Jenny vows to never wear a vintage throwback costume again. She wonders if other costumes have the power to unleash more evil.
